The S.T.A.R.R. is a tool to coach parents in effective listening and spoken language strategies. It is not enough for parents/caregivers to “want” listening and spoken language; sometimes behavioral changes are necessary. S.T.A.R.R. can be used as a clear script to guide the way to that behavioral change. S.T.A.R.R. strategies can be used with any parent, in any language. The points on the S.T.A.R.R. may be introduced in isolation but all 5 skills are used collectively and collaboratively by parents throughout the waking hours of the child.
